Solarize Cedar Rapids & Linn County

June 14, 2017

Homeowners throughout Linn County are invited to participate in the Solarize Cedar Rapids & Linn County program. This program offers homeowners lower prices for solar installations through the power of a group buy.

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) administers the program at no cost to the city or the county. This type of program has been successful in Illinois and Wisconsin, as seen in Milwaukee, Urbana-Champaign, Bloomington-Normal, and elsewhere.

MREA is working with The City of Cedar Rapids, Linn County, The Nature Conservancy, Indian Creek Nature Center, and Iowa 350 to educate local residents on solar energy and explain how the group buy works. This program reduces carbon emissions while providing residents with the opportunity to invest in their own high-quality renewable energy solar installation, with savings on installation cost.

Over the next few months, MREA will provide free, public one-hour long educational sessions called Solar Power Hours (see list below) for prospective participants to learn how solar energy works and to answer questions. Visit SolarizeLinnCounty.com, to sign-up. Homeowners have until September 30, 2017 to join the Solarize Cedar Rapids & Linn County Program.

How Does a Solar Group Buy Work?

Homeowners come together as a community to purchase and install solar at reduced prices.

Reduced Price: A group buy lowers costs through the power of a group purchase. The more homeowners that participate, the lower the cost will be. The price is reduced because education & customer development is done early in the process, which saves the installer time & money.

Education: Solar group buys help homeowners decide where to start, what to budget, and who to hire. MREA provides free community sessions to help the community learn more about solar, its costs and benefits, and how the group-buy program works.

Installer Selected: An advisory team selected Moxie Solar through a competitive process to ensure quality work at a lower cost to customers. The installer was selected based on certification, level of experience, and cost.

Enrollment: Interested participants will receive a free, no obligation site assessment and estimate from Moxie Solar. The homeowner will decide whether to move forward with the solar installation.

Sign up for the site assessment by attending a Solar Power Hour or contact Chris from Moxie Solar at: (319) 321-4902 or chris@moxiesolar.com.  Homeowners are asked to contact their energy provider and request a copy of electrical usage for the past 12 months. This will help determine the size of the array
